Free agents are:
players with options that weren't picked up
players at the end of a non-rookie contract
any player not already on a roster
if the FA was on your roster at the end of last season, you can go over your soft cap by $2.5m to resign him
Restricted free agents are:
players coming off a rookie contract that are not extended
if the RFA was on your roster at the end of last season, you can go over your soft cap by $5.0m to resign him
To bid on a FA, simply start a new thread with the name and then your starting bid in the Transaction board. Minimum bid is $.4m and must go up at least $.3m with the max bid being 20m. The bidding amount is per season. You then use the contract guidelines to figure out how many years. The highest bid must stand for 48 hours to win.
Example of highest bid:
Lebron James
$20.0m
After that bid sits for 48 hours the player is won. This contract comes to $20.0m for 5 years
In this case with Lebron James, it is a max deal. In the event of multiple max deals, the player goes to the team with best record last season. Unless matched if a RFA. In the event of a season tie it goes to the team with most points scored in the points category.
Absolutely no editing bids once they are posted. They will not count if edited
You cannot sign a FA after the playoffs start.
If you have a RFA you don't bid on your player. You can choose to match the highest bid or not.
If you have a full roster you must post the roster move that you are going to make in the bid post unless it is during the offseason. In which case you just need to have your roster under proper amount by a chosen date before the season starts.
You can not go over your soft cap with a bid unless the player was with your team at the end of the last season
RFA can be bid on after the draft is over. Around July 1st
FA can be bid on between July 15th and the start of playoffs
